What is the class size?
Depending on the year, there are 10-12 students in each class. If a session reaches more than 10 students, I assess the needs and hire an aide if appropriate. Due to the amount of space I have in the classroom and the engaging atmosphere, I am able to accommodate the above mentioned class sizes.

Are classes separated by age?
I offer a Pre-K extended day option for children preparing to enter Kindergarten the following year. Those students arrive 30 minutes earlier than their younger peers and get small group focused time working on some more advanced literacy and mathematics skills. The younger groups join us for the rest of class. I have a decade of experience differentiating instruction to meet the needs of different skill levels in both whole group and small group settings. Students will receive instruction targeted at their level throughout the entire class time. During our main block students are placed in groups of 3 for small group work with peers who are working on their same skill set (these groups are not always based on age). Having students of different ages in one class offers unique mentoring and learning opportunities and this is a research based practice found in many different school settings.

What are your qualifications?
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s Degree in both Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I am certified in teaching English as a second language and have taken several other child development and education courses throughout my career as a teacher. I have taught three years of first grade and seven years of Kindergarten in both the Provo and Alpine School Districts.

What curriculum do you use?
I use the Utah State Core Standards for early learning https://www.uen.org/core/prek/. In teaching those standards, I pull from several different sources including my own imagination. To make learning engaging and compelling, I incorporate a lot of music, movement and games. I am also a firm believer in the individuality of each student and each class. My planning is flexible and creative and I am passionate about encouraging students to explore their interests and give them plenty of time to do that!

Does my child need anything in preparation for preschool?
I provide a preschool bag for each student with their name on it. This helps them with recognizing their name and helps them easily locate their belongings. I ask parents to send their child to school with a SMALL snack and a water bottle each day. Other than that, all materials are provided by the preschool.
